How to Store and Deliver Your Messages
One day, someone you love will go looking for these. This is how you make sure they find them.
Core Principles
- Make them easy to access at the right times.
- Keep them secure and private with physical backups.
- Ensure they are clearly labelled and organised.
- Connect them to trusted people who can help deliver them if needed.
Step 1. Cloud Storage (Primary Storage)
Use a reliable platform such as Google Drive, iCloud, Dropbox, or OneDrive. Create a dedicated private folder, named something simple and clear like "Messages for [Name]", and share access only with one or two trusted people. Inside it, create subfolders organised by relationship or milestone, label each file clearly, and include a short written note explaining who the messages are for and how they should be used.

Step 2. Include Access Info in Your Will or Estate Plan
Your legal documents should explicitly state that these personal messages exist and where they can be found.
- Add a line to your will: 'Personal messages for my child are stored in [Insert Link]. Please ensure they receive these at the appropriate times.'
- Give your executor or trusted contact the password and clear access instructions.
Step 3. Message Delivery Options
If you want messages sent at specific milestones or dates in the future, consider using automated delivery services or a dedicated guardian.
- A Trusted Guardian: Have a reliable friend or family member deliver messages personally over time.
- FutureMe.org: Schedule emails with written or video messages into the future.
Step 4. Physical Backup (Optional but Smart)
Cloud services are excellent, but having a hard copy ensures your messages are never lost to digital errors or lost passwords.
- Store all videos on an encrypted USB or solid state drive.
- Label it clearly: 'To my child: messages from [Your Name]'.
- Keep the drive in a fireproof safe or give it to a trusted person.
